If you didn’t grow up with Fried Matzo in a Jewish household, why not try it and explore something new? I have fond memories of enjoying this dish from my childhood, and recently, I decided to whip it up for my wife. Fortunately, she loved it, so this flavorful dish will become a regular feature in our house.
To make Fried Matzo, you’ll need a few simple ingredients, with Matzo crackers being the key component. You can find them in the international section of most grocery stores. I live in Florida, and my go-to store, Publix, stocks them year-round in the international section.
Since this dish makes for a delightful breakfast, I like to add a touch of cinnamon for a hint of sweetness. Feel free to adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences. As a vegetarian, I opt for Morningstar sausage links, but you can experiment with any protein source you prefer.
This recipe is incredibly straightforward and can be prepared within 15 minutes. A crucial tip is to break the Matzo crackers into pieces roughly the size of a quarter or slightly larger. Run warm or hot water over them for one to two minutes until they soften slightly. Be cautious not to soak them too long, as they can become overly soggy. Adjust the water duration based on your preference for softer or firmer textures.
The beauty of this recipe lies in its flexibility. Add seasonings or other ingredients of your choice, such as your preferred protein or even some cheese. Fried Matzo is a versatile dish, and you can get creative with it. I hope you enjoy trying out this adaptable and delicious recipe!
